Gloria Lord is the quintessential spoilt brat. She's a think-me Katharine Hepburn type who never shuts up. A trust fund baby whose Daddy bought her a pony for her sixteenth birthday. Pampered and plucky, she's a little bit bored and little bit naive, with a totally inimitable take on slumming it.
Jimmy is an impoverished writer-slash-waiter. He lives on bourbon, coffee and a heart that bleeds for the common man. When Gloria meets him at her Daddy's birthday party, she blithely announces she's going to marry him. He refuses. She steals his typewriter to gain his attention. To no avail. And so begins the cat and mouse struggle towards the perfect, lingering first kiss.
Pratfalls, pastiche and a poor little rich girl. Silo Theatre's two great discoveries of 2009, Natalie Medlock and Matt Whelan, get all sophisticated and slapsticked in Richard Huber’s Glorious little rom com. Shamelessly borrowing from those nutty screwball comedies from the 1940s, this will be a mismatch made in theatrical heaven. We can't wait.
