Auckland Music Theatre proudly presents Jonathan Larson's Rent.
Set in the late 1990’s in New York City's gritty East Village, the revolutionary rock opera Rent that updated La Boheme with electric guitars, steel drums, strippers, and drag queens, tells the story of a community of artists, writers and musicians struggling to live and pay their rent.
'Measuring their lives in love,' these starving artists strive for success and acceptance while enduring the obstacles of poverty, illness and in some cases living with HIV all while celebrating their creative spirit. Described by Rolling Stone magazine as 'a raw and riveting milestone in musical theatre', Rent is Jonathan Larson's Pulitzer and Tony Award winning musical, one of the longest running shows on Broadway.
